Our History Lyndon Institute was founded in 1867. In the course of its history, the campus has served as home to the Lyndon Commercial College in 1886, and the Vermont School of Agriculture, founded in 1910 by Theodore N. Vail, the first president of New England Telephone Company and the American Telephone and Telegraph Company (AT&T). In 1923, the name was officially changed to Lyndon Institute. From 1923 to 1951, the Institutue provided both secondary and post-secondary educational programs to area students. In 1951, the post-secondary programs moved further up Vail Hill to become Lyndon State College. In 2003 Lyndon Institute re-established its boarding program. Our Campus Lyndon Institute is made up of three campuses: Darling, Harris, and Vail. The buildings, laboratories, workshops, and athletic venues of these campuses represent the blending of academic and practical learning and the school and extracurricular activities that characterize LI life. The Arts Lyndon Institute reflects our community's commitment to the arts by requiring all students to take at least one credit in the fine arts. Courses in art, theater arts, and music range widely and include voice and instrumental lessons, music theory, printmaking, design publishing, foundations of theater and improvisation, among many others. Each year our Music Department and Fine Arts Department host several guest artsis-in-residence for workshops in both music and fine art.
Admissions Lyndon Institute seeks to enroll qualified students who demonstrate the potential to contribute to and benefit from a challenging, comprehensive education that encourages a lifetime of curiosity, learning, productivity and citizenship. LI welcomes students who are enthusiastic about learning and who want to take full advantage of the many opportunities that Lyndon Institute has to offer. Accepted students are expected to enter in the subsequent fall semester. Enrollment at the beginning of the spring term (mid-January) may be considered on a space-available basis. |
