Founded in 1912, Queen Ethelburga’s College is a boarding and day school for boys and girls aged 11 to 18. Situated in 100 acres of countryside, it offers some of the finest academic and recreational facilities in Europe.

Students past and present will tell you with pride that Queen Ethelburga’s College is special, friendly and pleasingly different from other schools. They have benefited from our successful commitment to them as individuals, our dedicated caring staff, our exceptional campus and the practical completeness of the education we give.

Our aim is to provide an education for life, with academic achievement as its core but with social and life skills as its heart. We welcome girls and boys aged 11 to 18 who share our philosophy of ‘To be the best that I can with the gifts I have’, and who seek a better quality of life at school as a day student or resident on campus.

Academic
Our objective in the early years at school is to identify each pupil’s strengths, weaknesses and particular lines of interest in order to develop, in conjunction with pupil and parents, the most appropriate selection of GCSE subjects when that time arrives.

Those pupils who join us aged between 11 and 13 will enter a broad-based programme of lessons including English, mathematics, three sciences, music, the arts, languages, information technology and the humanities. Careers lessons, sport and personal and social education (PSE) are also included.

Facilities
The College provides day and boarding places for girls and boys aged 11 to 18 in what must be some of the finest boarding accommodation in the independent sector. Most students have en-suite study-bedrooms. All have TV, DVD, telephone with voicemail, fridge, ironing board and safe.

Most sixth-formers have luxury accommodation complete with dual LCD TV and DVD, mini-kitchen with microwave/oven/toaster/grill, dishwasher and ice machine! Most rooms come ready wired for Internet. Sporting facilities include sports hall, excellent floodlit pitches for rugby, hockey and football, floodlit tennis courts, professional cricket square and a swimming pool.

Extracurricular
The College is proud of its after-school and weekend programme of events, clubs and societies. There are opportunities for service in the Combined Cadet Force or Duke of Edinburgh scheme, and clubs for everything from sports such as rugby, football, fencing or rowing to the aesthetic and artistic pursuits of music, drama and debating. Many students have an equestrian interest, from eventing.
